04 November 05 - Charity Auction - Hay Group Solutions
On Friday, 4th November, over 150 people crowded into the conference room at Hay Group - intent on three things..... drinking lots of wine, having lots of fun and spending lots of money in aid of our charity. The room had been totally transformed in to an Aladdin's cave of goodies ranging from designer handbags and designer holidays to 'you can't buy these in the shops' signed cricket shirts, footballs and books. The gastronomes were catered for with some fine parmesan cheese and smoked salmon.....and the fashion conscious were treated to some pre-release Firetrap jackets and a designer Heidi Klein bikini (which was bought one of the men in the audience.... allegedly for his girlfriend!) Our Spanish auctioneer... Raquel Demingo... added some continental flair to the proceedings and was 'fantastique'!
The bidding kicked off fast and furious with some impressively timed last minute bids that just snuck in before the gavel hit the block! Francois Pienaar (taller than the average chap) did a great job of ensuring that no bid went unnoticed. Chris Talbot was kept on her toes representing a multitude of silent bidders - she made a difficult task look easy especially when she was bidding against herself!
Some people had very deep pockets - so an extra big thank you to them. Also thank you to the caterers who put on a great spread.... and the wine (provided by the Hay Group) obviously helped to open a few wallets. Thanks to Andi Cox for keeping everyone topped up! We are extremely grateful to everyone who donated gifts, auction items and their time - especially Hilary Pienaar, Emma Mackenzie, Stuart McIntosh, Becki Sterling, Sam Guise and Kath Langridge from Hay Group Solutions - which helped to make this event an even bigger success than we could have possibly anticipated.
A big thank you to our Trustee and very good friend, Gerry Farrell-Morrish who gave a wonderful speech at the end of the auction, talking about Daniel and reminding everyone what our charity is about and making people aware of the importance of organ donation.
We raised an absolutely magnificent £6,193 in total and we are absolutely thrilled! The raffle alone raised an incredible £900 - that's 4,500 tickets!
