07 July 07 - Big Hearted Challenge The Live Life Give Life Team had some sweet success on the streets of Birmingham on Saturday when they built a massive love heart and helped to raise organ donor awareness as part of this year's National Transplant Week. With Birmingham virtually on our doorstep, it was great to be able to go along and lend our support and to finally meet our cyber friends Emily and Emma. We donned our plastic gloves and helped to turn 70 kg of white icing into blue icing. 'Knead'less to say we gave our arms a 'heart'y workout and got a bit blue in the process!!
Emily perfected her rather unique dry surfboarding technique to smooth the icing and it wasn't long before things started to take shape...
and a few hours later this was the amazing result.... the world's largest love heart with a very important message...
A big thank you to the Live Life Give Life Team for organising such a fun event! The Fire Engine from Ladywood Fire Station proved to be a great attraction for the children (and their Mums!) as did the face painters from Sparkles who did a brilliant job.
Look out for further coverage of National Transplant Week in the media. As Emily says... ''Here at Live Life Then Give Life, we are begging everyone to take the opportunity in the coming week to think and talk about the subject of organ donation. Be brave, broach the subject with friends or family, National Transplant Week is there for a reason, to raise awareness and save lives" You can sign up to the Organ Donor Register by clicking here
