06 Feb 06 - Making It Better makes it's first ever donation! We are very proud to announce that on Monday, 6th February we made our first official donation. When Daniel was being treated at Birmingham Children's Hospital (BCH), we spent many months staying at Edward House - which is literally a stone's throw from the Hospital. Edward House provides accommodation for the parents of seriously ill children whilst they are staying at BCH, allowing them to stay by their sick child's bedside. Edward House is much more than just a place to stay - the staff gave us so much friendship and support during our stay and continue to do so now. We can't imagine how we would have coped without Edward House and the people there, who provided us with a 'home from home' at a very difficult time. Edward House has many wonderful facilities, including a play room (which our son, Alex loved!), a comfortable lounge, a games room and fabulous freshly baked cakes every afternoon! But one of the things that we really missed, was having access to the Internet. The Internet is an incredibly powerful tool for many reasons, particularly as a way of staying in touch with family and friends, researching rare medical conditions and just keeping up with day to day news and interests. It is also a brilliant way of building communities of parents going through similar experiences. We wanted to thank Edward House for all the help and support they gave us, by giving something that others could use to help make their stay a bit easier. So we were delighted to be able to give them a cheque for £1,250 to fund their first Internet project. We presented the 'larger than life' cheque to Jeremy Walker at Edward House and the press were there to capture the moment! Click here to read the report which was featured in the Birmingham Mail on Thursday 9th February. Also, donated on the day was a computer, screen, printer and scanner to help those families who do not have access to a computer whilst at Edward House. Thanks to Guy and Alma Williams for their incredible generosity.
