13 April 08 - Mike's Mighty Marathon Mission CONGRATULATIONS to Mike Ellis for completing this year's London Marathon in 4 hours and 36 minutes!!! Here he is with his well earned medal!! (and looking remarkably refreshed!) The London Marathon is a truly inspiring event! 35,000 runners, all with their own personal reason for taking part in this ultimate challenge. Mike had chosen to run for two very special people - Daniel, and his friend Helen who had very sadly lost her battle against breast cancer. I definitely wanted to be part of the event, albeit in a more sedentary way, so I headed down to London for the weekend! After spending a couple of hours negotiating the Tube trying to find a suitable place to cheer Mike on, I concluded that my best bet was to head to the finish (it's amazing how you forgot it all, once you move out of the City... and what's the DLR? I'm sure it never existed in my day). A particularly heavy down pour had already left my map of the route unreadable, and with only 1% of juice left on my mobile I couldn't even ring the 'folks back home' for some internet assistance! Luckily I was able to find a small gap in the crowd about 600 yards from the finish line on the Mall, giving me a front row view! Wow, what an atmosphere - there was such a buzz in the air! I cheered and clapped all the runners as they came past, which included Mike.... although sadly I didn't actually spot him (sorry Mike!). Thank you so much Mike for choosing to run for our Charity - it's hard to put in to words exactly how much it means to us, and how grateful we are to everyone who sponsored you so generously! A magnificent £1,779.10 has been raised so far - which is quite phenomenal and has really given us a boost!! Mike's Justgiving page remains open until the end of May...
