DoNation is a major new season launched by the BBC highlighting the issues around organ donation in the UK. It aims to raise awareness, explain the facts, dispel myths and encourage people to make an informed decision about whether to add their name to the Register.

Headlining DoNation on BBC ONE are the following programmes:

Life On The List: a five-part documentary series telling personal stories about organ donation (being shown every weekday from Monday 22 to Friday 26 August 2005, 7pm BBC ONE)

DoNation: Kidney Transplant: Professor Robert Winston introduces this hour-long special focusing on the real-life story of husband and wife Rajesh and Varsha as they undergo a living donor kidney transplant operation. (being shown on Thursday 25 August 2005, 9pm BBC ONE)

Casualty at Holby City - Interactive: Casualty and Holby City join forces for the first ever interactive episode presented by Prof Robert Winston. With two patients desperately needing an organ transplant and only one donor - viewers get the chance to experience the tough decisions doctors face everyday. Have your say on how the episode will end. (being shown on Saturday 27 August 2005, 8.20pm BBC ONE)

There is an excellent BBC website to accompany the season at www.bbc.co.uk/health/donation with lots of facts and figures. You can even download screensavers and send e-cards.

The 28th British Transplant Games is taking place between 25th - 28th August and is being hosted in Loughborough and Leicester. This annual event aims to encourage transplant patients to live life to the full and help them to regain their fitness, while increasing public awareness of the value of organ donation and encouraging more people to sign up to the donor register. This year more than 700 athletes, of all ages, who have had an organ transplant, will be taking part in a wide range of sports from athletics and cycling to golf, table tennis and fishing.
