We are delighted to announce that we have recently made a donation to help with the running costs of Transplant Kids. Transplant Kids is an online resource and forum for families whose children are waiting for a transplant, or have already received their gift of life. Transplant Kids was set up in 2004 by Cat Hamilton, whose son Aaron received a life saving combined liver & small bowel transplant when he was 3 yrs old. Aaron is now almost 13 and doing amazingly well.
Everyone at The Daniel Courtney Trust is a huge fan of the site, which Cat runs with such dedication and passion. It is literally a life-line for many families.
In Cat's own words,
"It's still a fairly quiet corner of cyberspace but the forum now has over 100 members consisting of families with children who may need a life saving organ transplant, families of children who have received an organ transplant, donor families, charities as well as the odd health professional.
We are not a charity nor an organisation we are simply a family affected by organ transplant, financing and maintaining the website ourselves.
It makes it all worthwhile when we get feedback from families who have found what they were seeking in Transplant Kids, that it's achieved what we intended it to do, be it information, support, inspiration or just simply the knowledge that there are others out there like themselves, to ask questions or simply rant and let off steam when things aren't going so well, often those closest to us are very supportive but in reality often don't truly understand the emotional rollercoaster you embark upon… it's a journey for life and between our members we hold a wealth of experience of being on that scary ride!
Daniel was lucky to have received two transplants in his short lifetime. As Daniel's family we will always be grateful to two very special families who gave Daniel such an incredible gift. Raising awareness of the need for more people to sign the Organ Donor Register is very important to us.
